Step 1. Assemble the base

Materials for the base

  • 2x4 inch lumber, 8 feet long
  • Screws (3.5 to 5 inches long)
  • Screw Driver
  • Eco wood treatment (mix for 1 gallon)
  • Lumber (quantity 4)
  • Paint brush
  • Scews (quantity 8)
  • Staple gun and staples
  • Wire mesh flooring 1/4 inch

Instructions for the base

  1. To help extend the life of the wood, treat it with Eco Wood Treatment. The product is safe to use around vegetable gardens.
  2. Our garden enclosure has a square base measuring 8x8 feet. For a higher structure with more interior space, build a 7x12 foot base and adjust instructions accordingly.
  3. Assemble the base by attaching each end of the 2x4 inch lumber as shown in the photo.
  4. Using a wire cutter, trim the wire mesh for the bottom of the base to prevent critters from tunneling into your garden.
  5. Staple the wire mesh to the base.
  6. Note: We stapled the wire mesh to a thin piece of wood running down the middle of the base. Instead, you can attach two pieces of wire mesh by "sewing" them together with a wire thread.

Step 2. Fasten Cattle Panel Hoops To Base

Materials for the hoops

  • Cattle panels (quantity 2) 4x16 feet
  • Pipe hanger strap
  • Staple gun and staples

Instructions for the hoops

  1. Place the end of a cattle panel inside the front of the wood base, lift the panel up in the middle and place the other end of the cattle panel inside wood base.
  2. Now that the front hoop is done, do the same process for the next cattle panel by placing it inside the back of the wood base.
  3. Note: If you built a 7x12 foot base, 3 cattle panels will placed in the front, center and back of the 7x12 base.
  4. Use pipe hanger strap to fasten the cattle panels to the base.

Step 3. Frame the front and back of the structure

Materials for the frame

  • Lumber (quantity 6) 2x4 inches, 8 feet long
  • Screws measuring 3.5 inches long

Instructions for the frame

  1. Reinforce the structure by framing the front and back of the enclosure with vertical lumber supports.
  2. Attach diagonal and horizontal lumber supports.
  3. Frame in the doorway. Complete this before starting the next step.

Step 4. Build the door

Materials for the door

  • HomaxEasyGate No-Sag Gate Bracket Kit
  • Lumber (quantity 2) 2x4 inches, 8 feet long
  • Screws measuring 3.5 inches long

Instructions for the door

  1. Measure and cut lumber for the door.
  2. Assemble the door using the HomaxEasyGate kit. All the hardware you need for the door is in the kit.

Step 5. Wire Mesh and Door Hardware

Materials for wire mesh & door hardware

  • Black barrel bolt lock (quantity 2)
  • Eco wood treatment (mix for 1 gallon)
  • Gate pull
  • Wire mesh

Instructions for wire mesh & door hardware

  1. Use a wire cutter to trim the wire mesh to size.
  2. Wrap the wire mesh across the top of each cattle panel and staple it to the wood base.
  3. Wrap the wire mesh over the front and back of the enclosure and staple it to the wood frame.
  4. Finally, attach the barrel bolt locks and door handle. We purchased these items in black to match the black gate kit and looks much nicer to have the hardware match.
